Two very different kinds of lash serum

The ingredient that makes a serum work also decides its risk profile. Here's the one distinction every shopper should understand.

Prostaglandin analogs

Bimatoprost (Rx), isopropyl cloprostenate, ethylcloprostenolamide and similar. Fastest, most dramatic length — and the ingredient class behind reports of lid darkening, iris color change and fat loss around the eye.

Which serums contain them →

Peptides & botanicals

Myristoyl pentapeptide-17, biotinoyl tripeptide-1, acetyl tetrapeptide-3, other peptide complexes. Gentler, slower, and focused on conditioning, anchoring and extending the growth phase.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best lash serum in 2026?

The previous QUALASH recommendation is under reassessment after an ingredient correction. Compare the verified sizes, regular prices and current ingredient classifications below.

Do lash serums actually work?

Yes — but how well depends on the active ingredient. Prescription bimatoprost (Latisse) has clinical-trial evidence; over-the-counter prostaglandin analogs work similarly but carry the same side-effect profile; peptide serums condition, reduce breakage and support the growth phase for a gentler, slower result.

How long does a lash serum take to work?

Most people notice less shedding by week 3–4 and visible length or fullness between week 8 and 12. Lashes grow on a 6–10 week cycle, so a fair trial is at least 12 weeks.

Are prostaglandin lash serums safe?

They are effective but linked to reported side effects including eyelid darkening, redness, dryness, periorbital fat loss and — rarely — permanent iris pigmentation. Health Canada restricts them in cosmetics and the FDA has issued warning letters. We flag every analog-based product in our ranking.
